The stakes are higher than ever for students taking college/graduate school admissions and teacher licensure tests.
Critical reading
The critical reading sections of standardized tests are very difficult for most people, due to the vocabulary loads and length of the passages, the wording of some questions, and the test-writers’ purposeful creation of items that few people can answer correctly. Fortunately, there are a host of strategies test-takers can use to improve their passage and item comprehension and increase their scores. I coach test-takers on how to negotiate the critical reading sections of the SAT, ACT, GRE, Praxis CORE, NY State’s ALST, and other exams.
Argumentative and persuasive writing
The argumentative writing sections of standardized tests can also be challenging. There are test-specific strategies that test-takers can use to increase their scores in this area, as well. I provide writing coaching relative to the SAT, GRE, and Praxis CORE. I also coach aspiring teachers on the writing sections of New York State’s EdTPA and content specialty tests.
Teacher licensure/certification
In addition, I work with aspiring teachers on any Praxis II or state test that requires disciplinary specific knowledge related to Literacy/English Language Arts or general pedagogical content knowledge.
I maintain an impressive home library of test preparation resources for use in my tutoring/test-strategy coaching.
