INTERACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTSDr. Wieland’s support and guidance including her rigorous course expectations, prepared me for my future career as a Reading Specialist. Immersive and compellingPublic review of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Affixes, Level 3 on Outschool:
A wonderful series of classes. An opportunity not to be missed, to study with Dr. Wieland. I wish I was offered classes like these when I was a child. My daughter is doing the entire series, and it has been fantastic, English decoded. Dr. Wieland’s course is immersive and compelling, my daughter loved every single session. My daughter might not have had the benefit of etymology until college/university, but here it is, it is suitable for children and leaves them with deep understanding and literacy skills for life. I cannot recommend Dr. Wieland’s courses highly enough. Rating 5/5
Dr. Karen makes learning funPublic review of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 2 on Outschool:
Dr. Karen is an amazing teacher! She makes learning fun for the kids and is very attentive to all the students. Any student that is interested in words would love this course. Rating: 5 / 5
Always Provides Positive FeedbackOur 9 year old opted to take her reading further & Dr Karen came highly recommended. It can be hard to gauge a child’s progress but if you measured against the tangibles of enjoyment & self-directed readiness to do homework, then Dr Karen’s lessons most definitely get 5 stars from us both. For us, connection is key to growing learning. Dr Karen naturally asked about interests & connected, maintaining interest & focus. Dr Karen’s managed to always find a sincere way to provide positive feedback too. We’d definitely recommend Dr Karen’s word study lessons.
This is an absolutely outstanding course
Review of Vocabulary Building with Latin & Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 1 on Outschool: This is an absolutely outstanding course. My learners got so much out of the word study, and I can tell their reading has improved as well. High recommended! Rating: 5 / 5
Fun atmospherePublic review of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes on Outschool:
My son thoroughly enjoyed his experience with Dr. Wieland’s class. Learning Latin and Greek roots using Google docs gave him the sense of teamwork with his fellow students. The fun atmosphere created by the instructor and students was a great benefit to remembering what had been taught during class. Rating 5/5
Loved this class; excited to continueReview of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 1 on Outschool;
My 11 and 13 year old kids loved this class! They have two different learning styles and both were engaged and interested. Dr. Wieland was knowledgeable and able to communicate that knowledge well. She was also great with mid week communication and I think it’s wonderful that the kids were given all the material worked on in class to continue reviewing on their own time. Both kids are excited to continue through the other levels as we can get them in our schedule. – Rating 5/5
We love her!My son has taken numerous classes with Dr. Karen over the past few years and every single one of them has been wonderful! His reading, writing, and understanding of the English language has just exploded in all of the best ways. She spends so much time with the students and is always engaging. We love her!
"I wish that class would last for a million years!"Public review of Multisensory Phonics Level III on Outschool:
I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Karen’s classes. After the last class, my son came outside and said, “I wish that class would last for a million years”. I think that speaks for itself!! Rating 5/5
A great turning pointMy son was afforded the opportunity to work with Dr. Wieland individually with the Wilson Reading program. This structured, systematic, sequential, multisensory phonics approach provided him with many opportunities to increase his word recognition abilities. This was a great turning point for him and the results were amazing. In no time he was reading novels by Ray Bradbury and American short fiction. We went from this teachers telling us he might never read at grade level to their being impressed with his independent reading abilities. My son does better in all aspects of his school work for the simple reason that he can read the directions on tests as well as the material on the test itself. My husband and I are amazed at his increased fluency when we listen to him read and we are so proud to hear him have discussions with adults about The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, and other books he has read. We often wonder how were so lucky to be afforded this life changing opportunity f… Read more
Excellent ProgramI am really thrilled with your excellent program which I think will be very helpful to T. as she transitions into English school.
Highly recommendedReview of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 4 on Outschool:
A wonderful class. My older daughter has completed Levels I, II, III and IV. The little one will start with Level I soon. Highly recommended. Deep literacy – for life. Thank you, Dr. Wieland! – Please do let us know when Level V is be offered. – Rating 5/5
Dr. Karen is brilliant, fun, inclusive and caringReview of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 4 on Outschool:
We LOVE Dr Karen! One of the very best teachers on Outschool. She is brilliant, fun, inclusive and caring. These vocabulary classes have been wonderful for my daughter, making her look at languages in a whole new way. – Rating 5/5
SIGNIFICANT PROGRESSWe became aware approximately two years ago that Dr. Wieland was working on level two Wilson Reading and that she was willing to involve my daughter in the work she was doing. Since that time, she has worked with my daughter, first specifically on the Wilson Reading [program], and then branching out to include improving her contextual comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary as well as her reading motivation. While my daughter does not yet read at grade level, she has made significant progress, with the support of Dr. Wieland. She is an Honor Roll student and she is able to keep up with her class, with accommodations.
The teacher followed the lead of the studentsReview of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 4 on Outschool:
My son took three Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes classes and enjoyed them all. He liked that the class was flexible, the teacher followed the lead of the students, and making slides each week. He felt that it was easy to participate in discussions and was never stressed about homework, even though there was an assignment each week. – Rating 5/5
UNSURE TO CONFIDENTKaren is a kind and compassionate tutor that met my child’s needs in prepping for the SAT test. She went from unsure to confident in just a couple of sessions. I am very pleased with her progress and with Karen’s gentle prodding that kept her working toward her goals.
Great Sense of Humor and EnthusiasmI took a survey on Outschool the other day and they asked me what they could do to make Outschool even better. I said that they should clone Dr. Karen Wieland and have her teaching a lot more classes. I feel like a lot of other Outschool teachers could really benefit from taking a page out of your style guide. The way that you chat with the students and get them warmed up and comfortable, you really allow them to make their discoveries for themselves, and just the way that you maintain a great sense of humor and enthusiasm through the whole class/course is really exceptional.
