My instruction is individualized and goal-directed
My review of the client’s case history, along with what I learn through intake interviews and initial diagnostic assessment and evaluation, informs the instructional recommendations and/or plans that I develop for face-to-face or online/virtual sessions. I identify and prioritize specific long-term goals related to reading, writing, and spelling as well as shorter-term goals for the desired period of the intervention. Then I design lessons that are goal-driven and research-based, which build on the client’s interests and strengths.
I do not do cookie-cutter instruction — every lesson I teach is planned individually and carefully
Though I often use the Wilson Reading System scope and sequence and learning materials with my clients, and I attempt to teach that program with fidelity, there is still a great deal of individualization involved in planning every meeting with client. I adjust my pace, word choice, pedagogical moves, and learning materials to maximize client success.
