Classical Latin Instruction
Studying Latin language serves to build knowledge of morphemes (meaningful word parts) that comprise English words and words in Romance languages. Latin study thereby sets the stage for learning any of the Romance languages more quickly.

What Others Are Saying…
A Great TimeHappy holidays, Dr. Karen. And thanks so much for everything S. has learned from you. She had a great time and is already asking me to sign her up for level 2 🙂
KNOWLEDGEABLE & ACCOMMODATINGWhat I like most about Dr. Karen’s tutoring sessions, is that she is patient and relates our content session with real life examples and puts things in simple terms for me to understand. I like that we brain-storm together.
Our daughter absolutely loved class
Review of Introduction to Latin Course II on Outschool: Outstanding course and instructor. Our daughter absolutely loved class and the extra Latin game nights hosted by Dr. Karen Rating: 5 / 5
Incredible teacherReview of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 1 on Outschool:
Dr. Karen is an incredible teacher. She is enthusiastic, incredibly knowledgable, funny, and passionate about words. My eleven-year-old son LOVED this class and learned so much. Even when we were on vacation, he begged to find a location so he could call in. When I asked him if he would like to do level two, he said, “I will do anything with Dr. Karen!” – Rating 5/5
Worth every pennyDoctor Wieland is a gifted teacher. My child went from Latin being her least favorite subject to her most favorite subject. She looks forward to every meeting with Doctor Wieland. Doctor Wieland has gone above and beyond to help our child prepare for the National Latin Exam. I have recommended her to anyone who will listen. Her expertise and obvious passion for teaching is worth every penny.
Learned SO Much!My 11-year-old had little previous experience studying roots and affixes and I thought this class may be too much for her but Dr. Karen was amazing and engaging. My child had a wonderful experience and learned SO much!
Class is entertaining and very informativePublic review of Multisensory Phonics for Word Recognition (Decoding) and Spelling (Encoding) Level 2 on Outschool:
This class is entertaining and very informative. Note to parents, you get the best value if you do the homework with your kids as one class builds on the next. My kids as well as I enjoyed Dr.Karen’s class and teaching style. Overall rating: 10 Content: 5 Presentation: 5 Logistics: 5 Value: 5

Fantastic World of WordsCan’t wait to sign up for more classes with Dr. Karen. Dr. Karen engages kids with her passion for teaching that doesn’t overwhelm- but invites kids into this fantastic world of thoughts about words I never knew existed. Thank you Dr. Karen!!
Karen gave me a rock solid foundation in voice and that experience gave me a love for voice that I carry with me today
If you are fortunate enough to have Karen as a teacher, count yourself as one of the lucky ones. I have been actively pursuing and succeeding in a professional entertainment career for the better of my life and have had many MANY amazing teachers and I count her as one of those amazing teachers and I don’t just mean in voice. Not ONLY does she have the expertise of the voice and how to overcome your personal, unique vocal issues, but her caring teaching style and way of giving you the right information needed at the right time in the right moments make her a great choice for an amazing experience. She gave me a rock solid foundation in voice and that experience gave me a love for voice that I carry with me today. Sadly for me Karen isn’t in NYC because if she were I would still be working with her today as one of the secret weapons in my arsenal to my continued success in this business. Do walk, RUN to a lesson today and see if I’m joking. Believe me, i’m not. 😉 Good luck on… Read more
My son gained confidence when seeing unfamiliar words
Review of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 2: My son is a reluctant reader/language arts student who has gained confidence when seeing unfamiliar words, and learned a lot about how these root words are constructed in English.
Rating: 5 / 5
KNOWLEDGEABLE AND PASSIONATE TUTORKaren is passionate about what teaches and that passion passes onto her student. It is excited to work with Karen and feel her passion and to have that passion passed onto my daughter.
MY SON RAISED HIS TEST SCORE BY 140 POINTSKaren is passionate about teaching! It is obvious to her students that she loves what she does, bringing much knowledge and enthusiasm to every session. Karen tutored my son for his SAT’s and with her guidance and support he raised his test score 140 points. The time restrictions with standardized testing is extremely challenging for students with dyslexia. My son is currently a honor student without support in high school. He was frustrated and struggling when it came to SAT/ACT. Karen spent time explaining how to prepare and take the test, as well as working with him to explore strategies that had him confidently walking into the test center, fully prepared. I can say, with much assurance, that I would recommend Karen to any student. Thanks Karen!
Truly Joyous ExperienceAs always, a truly joyous experience, this is my third child climbing up through all the levels of the fantastic Latin and Greek Roots courses with Dr. Wieland. Two others have completed all available! This course, for my youngest, to be followed by Dr Wieland’s Latin courses. Deep literacy skills for life, with fun puzzles and crosswords, and a wonderful classroom environment always, leaving the children with a real sense of achievement and contribution. We feel incredibly lucky to have found the superb courses with Dr. Wieland saw the benefits paid out to the two older children in their highschool grades and in extra-curriculars, their ability to decode languages and to write very well has already opened doors.
SIGNIFICANT PROGRESSWe became aware approximately two years ago that Dr. Wieland was working on level two Wilson Reading and that she was willing to involve my daughter in the work she was doing. Since that time, she has worked with my daughter, first specifically on the Wilson Reading [program], and then branching out to include improving her contextual comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary as well as her reading motivation. While my daughter does not yet read at grade level, she has made significant progress, with the support of Dr. Wieland. She is an Honor Roll student and she is able to keep up with her class, with accommodations.
Fantastic content and teacher!!!Public review of Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes on Outschool:
Fantastic content and teacher!!! Rating 5/5
An exceptional teacherDr. Karen is an exceptional teacher. I would highly recommend her to any parent seeking foundational instruction spelling and reading. She is incredibly dedicated, caring, friendly, engaged with her student and really knows her stuff! It’s quite clear that, for her, this teaching is a calling rather than an extra source of income. My daughter actually looks forward to her phonics sessions with Dr. Karen. That says a lot. In two weeks of intense sessions, we have already noticed a distinct improvement. This was a great investment of time and money!
So many more words make sense to him now!Public comment about Vocabulary Building with Latin and Greek Roots and Affixes, Level 2 on Outschool:
By the way, as I had mentioned before, [my son] is dyslexic, and thus has some difficulty with written work. I signed him up for the 2nd part of this class because he told me I had to. He told me that so many more words make sense to him now because he can see how they add up. He thinks more mathematically so these classes have put pieces together for him that he was unable to connect before. This is the first language class we have done that he has personally requested to continue! So, thank you for all you are doing. It is making a difference for him, and he is enjoying it!
